ABRAHAM'S TREK: UR TO CANAAN

ABRAHAM'S TREK: UR TO CANAAN

Terah, Abraham’s father, led his family out of Ur to migrate to the land of Canaan (Genesis 1:31). A message God delivered to Abraham motivated Terah’s decision to leave Ur, “Leave your country and your relatives, and come into the land that I will show you” (Acts 7:3 NASB).
Canaan lay several hundred miles to the west of Ur. Terah chose to go around the Arabian Desert, leading his caravan to the northwest, along the Euphrates River. He paused about 900 miles (1450 kilometers) into the journey. For an unexplained reason, Terah settled in the city of Haran, near the northernmost point of his proposed trek to Canaan (Genesis 11:31). He eventually died there.
God again instructed Abraham to relocate to “the land which I will show you” (Genesis 12:1). With his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot (Genesis 11:31), Abraham “went out, not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8 NASB), taking along “all their possessions which they had accumulated” (Genesis 12:5). God then led them to Canaan.

All for Jesus,
